First, we cannot deny the importance of technology in our daily lives. Technology has many forms, including artificial intelligence. We will learn about the definition of artificial intelligence and how it has entered all kinds of different fields until it has reached the legal field. However, many countries have already used them in different legal proceedings. Thus, we will discuss how it has helped us in the legal field in real life and how we can use it in future legal cases. In conclusion, we will learn about AI’s disadvantages, dangers, and risks that must be avoided.

What is artificial intelligence, and how did it reach the legal field?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that is interested in developing systems and software that enable machines to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. This includes the ability to learn from experiences, understand natural language, recognize patterns, solve problems, and make decisions. In other words, artificial intelligence seeks to create systems capable of thinking, learning, and working in a way that resembles or mimics human thinking, but in an automated and scalable way.

AI has entered the legal field in several forms: legal robots and smart aids: Legal companies have started using smart assistants and legal robots to answer frequently asked questions, help clients, and provide initial legal advice. The advent of machine learning techniques: As machine learning techniques evolved, legal companies began using artificial intelligence to analyze large legal data. Tools have been developed to analyze legal documents, such as contracts and settlement agreements, more quickly and accurately than humans.
How artificial intelligence has helped individuals legally?

AI has already helped lawyers by automating many routine legal tasks, such as contract review and document analysis. Conduct legal research faster and more accurately. AI can quickly review thousands of pages of legal documents, detecting unclear errors or items. Assist in contract drafting by providing templates and recommendations on common formulations used in certain types of contracts, thereby saving time and ensuring accuracy.

AI has also helped individuals in legal matters in many countries, such as the United States. Companies and lawyers use AI to analyze legal documents and search for case law. Canada: AI has begun to play an increasing role in providing legal advice, especially in business and corporate fields. UK: Britain has an advanced legal system, and AI is used to speed up legal processes such as contract checks and legal advice. United Arab Emirates: One of the Arab countries that has begun to rely on artificial intelligence is providing special legal advice in commercial fields.

There are many applications used for individuals in legal matters, such as: ROSS Intelligence: “ROSS” is one of the most popular legal AI systems. Relies on IBM Watson to search laws and regulations and provide answers to legal questions. LawGeex: Used for automatic review of legal contracts. Checks documents and compares them with companies’ legal standards, helping to reduce errors and improve efficiency. Casetext: A legal research platform based on artificial intelligence to deliver accurate and rapid search results, with a focus on providing relevant case law and important legal texts.

Artificial intelligence has helped in legal issues of international law, such as assisting individuals in understanding complex legal texts and identifying important information. Follow up and monitor compliance with international treaties and conventions, thereby helping individuals and companies to abide by international laws. Provide alternative solutions to conflict resolution through information analysis. Using predictive models to assess the results of international issues based on historical information helps individuals make strategic decisions.

How does artificial intelligence help uncover a lot of crime?

AI helped us analyze huge amounts of data very quickly. It can be used to analyze phone call records, emails, and financial transaction records to identify suspicious patterns that may indicate criminal activity. Also, AI-based facial recognition systems are increasingly used to identify crime suspects. These systems can quickly scan video footage from surveillance cameras and identify wanted or suspected persons. Also in the area of cybercrime, artificial intelligence is used to detect illicit online activities such as financial fraud, piracy, and malware. Artificial intelligence can monitor networks for abnormal behavior or potential threats. AI is also used to recover and analyze digital evidence, such as emails and telephone records, that can provide new evidence in old cases.

How will artificial intelligence affect the charges at trials against the defendants?

AI can affect defendants’ sentences in many ways, either directly or indirectly: Improving legal advice: AI can provide legal advice based on massive data analysis, helping lawyers build robust defense strategies. Evidence analysis: Artificial intelligence can analyze evidence deeper and faster, which can affect the evaluation of evidence presented in court. Risk prediction: Some systems use artificial intelligence to estimate the likelihood of recurrence of the crime or risks associated with the accused, which may affect the judge’s decision on sentencing or parole conditions. More complex data analysis: AI can analyze human behaviors and changes in biometric data such as heart rate, breathing, and changes in facial expressions more detailed and accurately. AI can also improve algorithms used in lie detectors to identify patterns that refer to lying. Example of cases involving AI: The Case of Serial Killer Albert Fisher: In 2020, AI was used to analyze fingerprints and criminal data in the case of serial killer Albert Fisher. Intelligent analysis helped confirm the links between evidence and more accurately guide the investigation, contributing to amending legal provisions and procedures.

What are the disadvantages of artificial intelligence, and what are its legal dangers and risks?

Artificial intelligence can pose several risks to law and the judicial system: bias: AI algorithms can involve unintentional biases if they are trained in biased data. This may lead to unfair decisions in areas such as employment and criminal cases. Technical errors: Errors may occur in AI-supported systems, which can lead to legal advice or inaccurate judgments, negatively affecting justice. Cybersecurity: Legal systems that rely on artificial intelligence may be vulnerable to cyberattacks, putting sensitive legal information at risk. These risks require caution and ensure clear legal controls and frameworks for the use of artificial intelligence in the judicial system to ensure justice and equality.

In conclusion, AI can be said to have radically transformed the field of law, introducing new tools and techniques that have improved efficiency and accuracy and accelerated legal processes. However, this technological intervention comes with privacy, bias, and justice challenges and risks. While AI continues to develop its capabilities in this area, it remains essential to strike a balance between utilizing this advanced technology and ensuring that the core values of the judicial system, such as transparency and equality, are maintained. Ultimately, artificial intelligence is a powerful tool, but it requires conscious and responsible management to ensure fair and effective justice.
